Reports

So since I'm writing these reports (and don't have too much else to talk about) maybe you guys want to read them?  Here's a quick little summary about where I live!

General Information: Palacagüina, which means town at the foot of the hill, is a small town located 3 kilometers off the Pan-American Highway in the northern department of Madriz.  For as long its residents can remember, Palacagüina has served as a center of commerce for Nicaraguans living in the northern part of the country.  Centrally located between Estelí and Ocotal or Somoto and midway between San Juan del Río Coco and Managua, Nicaraguans have been drawn to Palacagüina.  This trend has continued even past the revolution.  Although not adversely affected by the fighting, Palacagüina garnered fame thanks to song Cristo de Palacagüina by Carlos Mejía Godoy.  The lyrics tell the tale of Jesus born not in Bethlehem, but instead in Palacagüina and his desire to join the revolution.
The citizens of Palacagüina, in both their and this author’s opinion, are the municipality’s greatest assets and resources.  Hardworking and educated are adjectives heard many times during inquiries about Palacagüina’s inhabitants.  These character traits are exhibited by those surveyed and also by the leaders of the community.  Respected and influential people and institutions in Palacagüina include the mayor (Luz Amparo Garcia), Poder Ciudadano, the catholic priests (Mateo and Ramon) and evangelical leader (Luisa).  Regardless of social status, most residents cherish similar aspects of Palacagüina.  Many people are proud of Palacagüina for its proven record of being a safe and hospitable place live.  According to those surveyed, violent crime is extremely uncommon and not tolerated.
Additionally, the citizens of Palacagüina follow specific cultural norms surrounding other societal issues.  For example, marriage is not concrete and infidelity is common.  Machismo and viewing women as objects are regularly practiced among the population.  Another interesting factor that is present in Palacagüina is its view on economic status.  Financial success is well respected and the affluent generally receive better treatment and service.  On opinions regarding death, those surveyed responded that is causes them to think about the future.  While the residents of Palacagüina want to give a better life to their posterity, many have difficulty with financial planning.

Still much more to write (and it's due tomorrow)!  Adios!
